Air Force Rugby

ZRFC Rugby

The class of '89 will be having its' 20-year reunion 23-27 September 2009. Since the 89'ers were the first class to win a rugby national championship we will be trying to plan a big get together for the team during the reunion. Hopefully everyone can make it so we can have a few laughs, hoist a couple cold ones and toast absent friends. All ZRFC alums will be welcome to our festivities. Obviously we will not be able to vouch for the safety of wives or pretty husbands in attendance......that's just how we roll. Let's use this forum to discuss plans, resume the normal protocols for grievances, and of course assign "Trip Loser/Bastard" points as required. Uncle Vern will obviously have the final say. Hopefully everyone will get the e-mail chain making the rounds and join up here soon. This will be the place to offer your thoughts. I would also like to challenge the '89 crowd to open up their wallets and sponsor a cadet by buying them a training kit. Most of you boozebags spill that much in drinks anyway, so just fork it over and be a little more careful in the bar would ya!

A final thought.

Oh the village economist he was there..............

Yo Brent! Looks like the word is getting out about the reunion. I saw that Uncle Vern is planning to come. I'll definitely be down for some portion of the weekend. Keep up the good work man. Cheers...Barney B

Looks like a lot of the fellas are surfacing! Good stuff! A rules clarification question: Does this reunion qualify as a Road Trip even though it is at our home field? The reason I ask is to determine whether we should contemplate the Tom Eck/Brian Rau Award for this venue? Also, should we establish two categories for the award given the twenty year passage of time: 1) Single guys, 2) Married guys??

You magnificent bastard! Good to see you've aged so well. I look forward to seeing you in the fall, just don't expect me to eat any popcorn.

I vote yes for road trip rules applying. I think that there is no need to separate winners into marital status. The actions of the winner/s should speak for themselves. I also think that wives should be eligible to win aforementioned awards. We may want to consider granting Dr. Fester some sort of exemption for any required medical procedures he may have to perform. I mention this because I am pretty sure Frank Souza's prostate is about the size of a Nerf football. Just a thought.

Hey fella's. I just got off the phone with Schiller and we were talking about what to sign up for at the Reunion AOG website. Who is actually going to make it to the reunion? Are we planning on playing an Alumni match? Is anyone going planning on going to the Football game or are we going to roll like the old days and drink all afternoon up at Lawrence Paul pavilion? One more thing, Schiller has an extra room reserved at the Embassy Suites. Let him know if you want it at trschiller@fuse.net. Hope to see a bunch of you at the reunion. Boa Tay Lay Lay.

Blaino and I will be there! (And might I mention what a lovely website he has put together).
I agree that we should decide re: football game. Personally, I never went to the games when I was a cadet so I don't think I should start now. I'd rather watch some really old guys beat themselves up on the rugby pitch. Can't wait to see everyone. Psyched that Vern is coming.

Here is a tentative plan for hooking up all of the Zoomies at the '89 reunion. After an in-depth discussion with one Frank Souza, we thought it may be an easy solution for all of us to meet at the Embassy Suites on Thursday the 24th of September at the "Class Social and Welcome Buffet." The time is listed as "1730-2400." Friday morning at "0900", the Kevin Shea memorial dedication takes place at Doolittle Hall. He was a Zooomie, so we should show up in force. We figured everybody signed up for the big class dinner on Friday night, so feel free to go and hang out with all your sword team and honor guard buddies at that. Frank and I are going to the tailgate and football game on Saturday. Game starts at noon, so it should be over by mid afternoon or so. We thought it may be a great time to meet up on Saturday night with just the Zoomie crowd at a local bar. Frank and I are quite certain that our former favorite spots have been razed and the ground salted where they stood. We can only think that maybe the Dublin House is still around. If anyone has a great idea about a place, we are all ears. We are looking forward to seeing all of you again and having a beer or two. It should be great fun. Thoughts?

I've got two questions for ya VPol. When is the alumni match and why are you going to the football game? I guess Andy can help us answer about a match. I saw on the reunion web page that '84 and '99 are having their reunions the same weekend as us, so maybe we can come up with 15 ambulatory ruggers. We never went to football games when we were cadets so why start now? I haven't bought tickets to the football game yet, but if y'all are going I guess I will. About the buffet dinner/social Thursday and Friday; Schiller and I figured we'll have happy hour at the Embassy, go get a good meal elsewhere, then return to the Embassy once the buffet dinner is over for socializing. Maybe the rugby alumni can have dinner at a good local restaurant on Thursday or Friday. There's a place called Steaksmith about 7 miles from Chapel Hills mall, http://www.steaksmith.com/ I don't want a $48 rubber chicken buffet at the Embassy Suites. I really don't care to hang out with anyone but my rugby mates at this shindig (OK maybe a few other folks). Let me know and I'll make reservations. Just my thoughts.

Hey Guys,

I just got off the phone with Andy McQuade (current zoomie coach) and he gave me the lowdown on rugby this weekend. At 1300 on Saturday the Zoomie B's are playing Idaho St. They have invited us to watch them and hang around after for a BBQ at the pitch. On Sunday at 1300 the A's and B's play UNM and the same invite applies. He also said that quite a few Marines are showing up for Kevin's memorial on Friday at 0900 at D-Hall. He said they don't have enough bodies to play an alumni game but you guys have been around enough to know that there can always be a game! Andy is going to make sure our championship trophy is in the bar at Arnold hall in the "rugby shrine" they have there. I thought it would be a great idea for us to have a picture taken with it to send to Vern. Let's plan on meeting on Thursday night at the Embassy Suites at 1800 to count heads and make some more plans. I am really looking forward to seeing you guys!

Brent

P.S. Those who don't show........you WILL be talked about, enough said.
