Gents...is there an alumni game versus the Zoomies the weekend of the 26th? When? Are tthere any social events specifically for ruggers? Where and when? It would be great to see you guys.
I have heard nothing yet about a match. We play Idaho st. Sat, kick-off 1200hrs and a league match vs UNM Sunday kick-off 1300hrs. Let us know how we can help and what you guys need.
I am hearing there is a significant number of Marine rugby players coming in for the LtCol Shea Memorial Dedication. If we can put together a match between these Marines and the Class of '89 I think this would be great.
I am working right now to see what the numbers may be. As you can see from above our cadets have a busy weekend of intercollegiate play and will likely not be able to field a side against the alumni.
Let me know what I can do to help this all come together.
I copied this from the other board in case some of you foreskins got confused.
Hey Guys,
I just got off the phone with Andy McQuade (current zoomie coach) and he gave me the lowdown on rugby this weekend. At 1300 on Saturday the Zoomie B's are playing Idaho St. They have invited us to watch them and hang around after for a BBQ at the pitch. On Sunday at 1300 the A's and B's play UNM and the same invite applies. He also said that quite a few Marines are showing up for Kevin's memorial on Friday at 0900 at D-Hall. He said they don't have enough bodies to play an alumni game but you guys have been around enough to know that there can always be a game! Andy is going to make sure our championship trophy is in the bar at Arnold hall in the "rugby shrine" they have there. I thought it would be a great idea for us to have a picture taken with it to send to Vern. Let's plan on meeting on Thursday night at the Embassy Suites at 1800 to count heads and make some more plans. I am really looking forward to seeing you guys!
Brent
P.S. Those who don't show........you WILL be talked about, enough said.
It was great to see all of the guys that could make it. For those of you who didn't make it........we talked about you. Mercifully, we didn't have an alumni game. A quick list of '89 Zoomies sighted at the reunion (in no particular order): Tim Jozwiak, Ron Buckley, Frank Souza, Ted Schiller, Jim Snyder, Tim Bohman, Larry Hantla, Leo Cunningham and Brent Vander Pol. We didn't drink the brewery dry, but they did have to work a night-shift. We decided to vote on the "usual" awards after we'd had just enough beer to have really poor judgement. So being the fair and benevolent types that we are, we only voted for people who were NOT there. TRIP BASTARD: Dave Mets (Snyder had duct tape with him Mets, you were smart to stay away), TRIP LOSER: Dan Stone (wussing out of the last part of the '89 season because of a broken jaw still just doesn't sit right with several voters), TOM ECK/BRYAN RAU MEMORIAL AWARD: Floyd Finley (it just stands to reason that at his age, he'll take it any way he can get it.......enough said). Even to the most casual of observers, it was patently obvious that the scrummies had all aged like a fine wine, while the backs tended to look significantly shittier. On a a positive note, what was left of their hair was PERFECT. Vern we hoisted a couple for you and only spoke your name in hushed and reverent tones.........as far as you know.
