To all the Ruggers,
I went to see Vern and Laura on Wednesday at the house. It was great to see him, since the last time I visited him was in the hospital. He looked good and met me at the door with his fancy wheel chair. I got a tour of the house and the new Honda minivan that Laura has nicknamed "Zoomie".
I spent about an hour with them. Laura really emphasized the visit was great for both of them. If you are ever in Dallas you should really try to call them and stop by for a…

We spoke with Vern and Laura this evening and they asked us to post this update.
Vern arrived home yesterday all set to rock 'n roll. He motored around and even managed to get outside to their back yard without hitting walls, knocking over furniture or r…

Relayed from Keith and Aleta Gay:
On the eve of the Air Force - Navy game, Vern's brother-in-law, Steve Lind, wanted to share Vern's suffering as an Air Force grad over the past few years. Steve, who atttended a vocational sailing school in Annapolis, has had an ongoing bet with dear Uncle Vern regarding the outcome of the annual game. The loser of this bet, has been subjected to various forms of humiliaton including wearing a sandwich board with "Go Air Force/Navy" or said message emblazoned u…

The Zoomies pulled off their first league win on Sunday!
The cadets started off strong and knocked on UNM's try line multiple times. Poor decision making and lost ball in tackles led to only 15 points in the first half.
at half USAFA was only up 15-5.
At the start of the second half the teams traded tries back and forth and the score rested at USAFA 22-UNM 18. The lobo's missed a penalty kick from 30 meters out and then the zoomies took over.

Sorry for the delayed posting regarding last weekends game at Utah!
I was unable to attend due to training down in Kirtland...
The Zoomies played hard and valiantly. The Pack was very mobile and their ability to get around the pitch surprised the referee!
The Zoomies went out to a 12-0 lead, only see 28 unanswered points go against them.
They fought back, showing resiliency the cadets fought back to the end but landed short.
Utah 38 to the zoomies 29 was the final score.
Staytuned to mobil…

The zoomies faced Western State yesterday on a cold (and later wet) saturday.
Having to play in-between a women's round robin, the men were put on hold due to western's late arrival. However, never missing a chance to get some playing time, the young zoomies played against each other for 30 min before western was warm in a mix B vs C match.
There is a lot of talent in the younger ranks of the zoomies and the coaches are excited to see who steps up!
When Western was ready to go, the A side pla…

Boys,
I had to let you know that I went to see the old fart today. He looked great. He wanted to make sure I told you that he and Laura really appreciated all the thoughts and prayers. Laura was especially thankful of all of the support. She asked for all of us to continue thinking of them during the coming months.
Dave Mets, I wanted to let you know I printed some pictures from yours posted on the site to make him smile. He got a big kick out of the Uncle Sam hat and Dick leading the way on t…

Thanks be to God for Vern's progress, and I pray that his recovery will be full.
I checked with Harry about continuing with business at hand and his reply,
"Press on. Vern would want it that way."
So, off we go to this Saturday's AGM, 0800 for the Board meeting and 0900
for the AGM. It will be at the Eisenhower Room at the AFA Golfcourse.
If you wish to have breakfast, please notify me at robsidarn@msn.com

Just wanted to pass along some news about some of the Women Zoomie Ruggers: 2009 graduate Carolyn 'Red' Price and upcoming captain Katie Thompson played for the West U-23 All-Star team this past weekend in Pittsburgh, VA. The team went 1-1, losing a tough second match by a last minute penalty kick to the U-20 national team. The two front-row players made us proud, each scoring a try over the weekend. Also participating in the tournament was 2008 graduate, Ashley Snyder, who led the Northeast tea…

Everyone who donated: The cadets are extremely thankful!
We had donations range from $10-$2,500!
Some of this total will go to gear for the donors and the rest will go to the cadets and making them feel/look more professional.
Now, I will order all the nike gear, get it embroidered and then ship out to all the generous Zoomie Alumni and Friends.
