From Vern's CaringBridge site (www.caringbridge.org/visit/vernfrancis):

There's no place like home!

We spoke with Vern and Laura this evening and they asked us to post this update.

Vern arrived home yesterday all set to rock 'n roll. He motored around and even managed to get outside to their back yard without hitting walls, knocking over furniture or running anyone down. He sat outside with the boys (Randy and Keith) and they swapped lies into the night. It was 75 degrees and pleasant yesterday but snowing now so no forays outside today. When they were ready to call it a night, they discovered that the battery running the lift to put him in bed wasn't charged. Four very strong friends managed to get him into bed. The lift company sent a tech and a new battery out today and it is now up and running.

Vern told us that Laura is doing a great job supporting him. They truly are in love!

Vern and Laura are very happy with the people caring for Vern at home. It looks like there will be one at their home at least 6 hours a day. Laura reports that the visiting nurse assigned by the VA is wonderful and she is one they have worked with before.

In their master bedroom, Vern and Laura now have their own beds. Laura says hers is a new queen and they have arranged the beds close together so the lift can take Vern from his bed to hers whenever he wants to be closer.

Vern has a smile on his face and they are both very, very happy that he is home. They asked us to pass on Merry Christmas wishes to all of you and to let you know how much your prayers and love means to them.

Terry and Steve
